Close to perfect; still a favorite

"I have a past version where the fleece extends all around the wrist on the sleeves. This is one of the best features as it provides a ton of snot wipe real estate and is low profile under layers and glove gauntlets. I wear this jacket all the time for the past four years and it's held up great to tons of climbing, xc skiing, and around-town wear. My one gripe is the hand pockets have too small an opening for my hands. I don't even have large hands, I wear size M gloves. This means I can't grab anything from the pockets when I'm wearing gloves. Also, would be great if the hand pockets were slightly higher to be more accessible when wearing with a pack or harness. All the pockets have hidden zippers which looks good, but might also contribute to poor pocket access."

BD First Light is first class mid-layer

"The BD First Light hoody is my new go-to mid-layer for most outdoor activities. Never thought I'd say that having been a long time fan of the Patogonia Nano Air, but all factors considered (breathability, lightness, stretch, warmth) make the First Light hoody a true contender!"

Hoody Review

"I have owned several jackets like the First Light 1. 0 (Arc'teryx Proton FL Hoody, Mountain Hardwear), and this jacket is superior in every way. From the general stretch of the material, unisulated in the back panel to avoid overheating, and a generous hood, it is my go-to for winter running/ backcountry climbs in temperatures from 10 to 40 degrees. It's also a great around-town jacket - highly recommend. I'm 6 ft / 175 lbs, and the medium was a perfect fit."

Lawlor C. (5/5)

great

"excellent for ski touring or anything involving a light backpack. fairly wind resistant and very, very comfortable and mobile. im 5'9. 5" with long arms and big shoulders and the medium fits perfectly over a base or even over a midlayer because it's very stretchy. it's like a slight bump up in warmth from the nanoair ultralight, which i prefer for jogging but this has a little more insulation for zone 1 - 2 activities. style and fit are outstanding"

Good but spots.

"Great jacket, but the blue material came with spots on it. I tried washing it but near came out. Love the jacket just wish it didn't come with spots on one sleeve."

Kyle S. (4/5)

Mid layer warmth.

"Very pleased and quite happy with the unit. Primo loft super warm combined with the stretchy merino works well. Hood fit's over helmet no problem. Super lite very warm."

Christopher W. (5/5)

All good in the hood

"Very lightweight and warm very comfortable to wear. Used it in very cold weather and wore it underneath my helmet little bit bulky for under helmet, but kept me warm. I'm 6 foot four and a tall size would've been nice but it's workable."

Jeffrey B. (4/5)

Good Stretch, great mobility

"Wore this on recent winter hike to Mount Tecumseh in White Mountains, NH. The jacket is super light, stretchy true to its name and still was a great third layer. Didn’t have to use my puffy nor my hard shell through out the ascent or descent."

Shashi R. (5/5)

Light warm and comfy

"Cruising on skate or classic or backcountry skis, or hiking in rough terrain during winter weather, is totally comfortable in this jacket while wearing minimal undergarments. Layering on a second First Light 1. 0 jacket for the downhill ski is perfect because these jackets are lightweight warm and roomy and fit so easily in a ski pack."

Matthew L. (5/5)

Good

"I love my new jacket. It was perfect for the ski touring in our great ski condition in Canada"
