Engineered with the ideal balance of precision and comfort, the Technician Pro combines edging performance up front with cushion and comfort in the back.

This means you can leave the car, send the approach, and keep scrambling technical terrain to the summit without ever changing shoes. Inspired by the comfortable and ergonomic design of running shoes when building the midfoot and heel of the Technician Pro, we combined this technology with a forefoot and toe box that’s ideal for technical climbing in the mountains. The Technician Pro’s Vibram Mega Grip rubber provides sticky traction on terrain that demands precise edging and smearing when the trail kicks up to near-vertical scrambles. A laminated mesh and microfiber suede tongue stays in place while a seamless suede, abrasion-resistant upper keeps dirt and moisture at bay.

Reviews

"These are one of the more comfortable approach shoes Ive ever had. They run true to size exactly, no surprises in fit. The cushioning is way above average. Same with the support. I even wesr them to work on a concrete warehouse floor and they are great. Very happy with them. Innitally I mistakenly ordered the wrong size. But before they shipped I caught it and cuatomer support was super fast to respond and help me sort that out. Black Diamond is class outfit all the way around. Crazy fast shipping and handling. Three days from ordering to wearing them."

Great, dependable footwear

"Bought my first pair in Seward Alaska. As a disabled veteran with neuropathy in both legs and feet, I was in desperate need of a good pair of shoes. We were on a 5 month rv trip. Three years later we are getting ready for our second 5 to 6 month, 16,000 mile plus trip to Alaska and Canada and I thought that a second pair would be a good idea. These shoes are incredibly durable and comfortable. I expect them to last a good long time as the first pair show almost no wear after almost 3 years of daily use. They are a great shoe at a great value."

Approach Shoes

"A substantial improvement over BDs previous models. Seems like quality is exhibited with every element. Fit and performance are excellent!"

Sturdy approach shoe

"I have been looking for a pair of approach shoes to replace my old Selawa ones. I have wide feet and all of the new models from Salewa and La Sportiva are now too narrow. These BD ones are the widest ones I could find and seem to fit great! They are much sturdier than other approach shoes I have had and took a couple trips to break in, but I am really liking them. They have a stiffer sole which seems to benefit difficult rocky approaches with a heavy load on. The downside of the stiffer shoe has been that I haven't generally felt as secure on vertical technical climbing (5. 7/5. 8) as I did in my softer shoes. These are approach shoes though and not climbing shoes so I'm not upset about it. I have not had any issues with the cuffs as other reviewers have mentioned. Overall great shoe that seems like it will take a beating and keep going."

Perfect shoes

"Very nice shoes, super comfortable, the perfect size but a little heavy"

Paul H. (5/5)

Sweaty and expensive

"Mostly good shoes after one month of heavy use. One significant flaw is that they smell worse than any shoe I've ever worn. It feels like this is due to a lack of breathability, as my feat feel far sweatier than in other approach shoes I've owned."

Luke E. (3/5)

Beefy and Agile

"Really enjoying these approach shoes as they hold up with sandy desert approaches and muddy alpine areas. Thought they might be too stiff for the hiking portion but they are not bad. And having the tough sole and toe slows me to start on easy grades with them. Better colors in the next addition!"

Eric J. (4/5)

Need wider toe box

"Great grip, but that narrow toe box is TORTURE!!! My toes fall asleep after 6-7 miles. Cannot wear these for any more long hikes. Wide toe box only for me, going forward."

Brian (2/5)

Good for putting in work

"Took these out for the first time on Adams and Maddison over the weekend. Got rained on a good bit. Excellent traction on wet nh rock scrambles. Didn’t have the heel issues some folks mention. Put 10 miles in. I did treat them for waterproofing (pfas free)—the tongue still allows a bit of water in if you dunk your foot, but late spring nh climbing is the wettest environment I’d try them in anyways. Comfortable for 9hrs of intense hiking. Stable steps. Gonna run them through the wringer."

Matthew B. (5/5)

Solid shoe

"Very happy with the shoes; 12. 5 size a big plus for me. Very well designed. I would order a wider fit if available."
