Excellent Running Short

"These are one of the best running shorts I have found in years. Great fit and features. 4 stars only because I would prefer a flapped rear pocket instead of the zipped pocket (can feel the rear zipper if using shorts with a larger backpack that has a padded waist belt)."

Favorite Mtn Shorts

"My faves for summer in the mountains. Looking to buy another pair if/when these are back in stock for my size (waiting a couple of months now)."

Go-to

"These are my go-to running shorts. I don't wear any of my other running shorts anymore and I'm likely going to buy another pair."

Love the fabric, hate the pockets

"I was happy to see BD updated the Distance Shorts since I own the previous generation and while I love the fabric, the pockets were not designed well and I'm disappointed to report that they got worse with this version. To start with the positives, the fabric is excellent. I really like the weight, stretch, and drape. The fabric lightweight but reasonably durable. It's exactly what I'm looking for in a running short since I use my running short as a multi-sport short. I often end up working out in my running shorts and/or climbing and hiking in them. The liner fabric and design is adequate. What kills these shorts is the pocket design. Specifically the center back pocket, which is where you want to store a phone and I do on my other running shorts. A well designed center back pocket will hold a phone bounce free. On the last version and this one, a standard iPhone with a case barely fits, you have really fight it to go in and be able to close it. Not what you want when you just need to quickly use your phone when you're out on a run. This is super annoying and by far my biggest complaint. It makes me not want to run in them. Why BD did not slightly increase the size of the center back pocket is beyond me. I understand you don't want it too large but too small is worse. And the rest of the pockets suck too. The overlapping envelope style of the side pockets has caused me drop whatever item I have stored in them and because they're the same fabric as the main short fabric, I often forget what and where I stored something. I would much rather have a well tensioned stretch mesh drop-in style pocket like TNF's Pacesetter Short for ease of use and visibility. The fit is not great either. I'm a bit in between size M and L. I like the waist in the L but they feel really baggy compared to the M. The grading seems off/too extreme from M to L."

Feel great!

"These feel great and are the perfect length."

Please make a linerless or boxer-brief version

"Aside from the brief style liner, these shorts are great. I love the roomy cut, which provides for unrestricted movement even while climbing or scrambling. The pockets are functional and keep small items from bouncing around too much. I can fit an iPhone SE in the back zippered pocket easily, when I remove the carrying case. While the brief liner might be of good quality, there are many people who simply just don't like integrated liners and/or don't like wearing briefs."

Material

"They seem durable for how light weight and I love the color"

Christopher C. (5/5)

I want to love these shorts. . .

"But the zippered pocket in the back that is advertised to fit a phone doesn't fit a phone. My Samsung Galaxy S23+ with a thin case doesn't come close to properly fitting in the pocket. This, for me, is a deal breaker. The rest of the short is great. Feels durable, fits comfortably well and looks good. But if you have a modern smartphone, plan to wear a waist belt or vest to carry your phone while running in these shorts."

Great shorts

"The Distance Shorts have quickly become my go-to for weekday summer trail runs. Light, long enough for coverage but not too long, great pockets for all the necessities, and a light weight material that I expect to hold up over time."

Russell K. (4/5)

Tried and tested.

"Fit great! Wish the side pockets were a little bit bigger but overall 5 stars."
