"After accumulating years of battery waste from non-rechargeable Storms, the 500-R purchase was the right one all along. Weatherproof, bright enough for night work and play, ample re-chargeable power, intuitive controls and comfortable - this headlamp is all one needs. Thanks BD!"
"What an amazing headlamp! Fits comfortably on any hat/head, and has the perfect amount of light adjustments to fit along with any adventure. Super impressed with the battery life as it lasted all weekend of a climbing trip on one full charge."
"Was pleasantly surprised at how effective the red light mode is on it, and the headlamp is plenty bright with good depth and breadth of coverage when hiking on trails in the dark. Was glad to have it as it definitely has comer in handy and a great upgrade over my last one from 2016!"
"I just got the light after being a daily flash deal. I like to walk my dogs and I use a red light so I don't blund any drivers while crossing a road to my walking path. Light modes are easy to change and the light has memory so it will go back to last light you used. The side of the case allows you to tap or slide to go to full power. When turning off the light has 3 small blue lights that serve as a remaining power notification. The light needs USB-C since it's the standard now and I would like a better way to position the light while wearing. For the price this issues are not a dealbreaker. I haven't tried adjusting the light with gloves on but I will test that with several types of gloves and update this review."
"Great light. It's very easy to change modes and I especially like the ability to swipe for brightness on the edge of the case."
"Rechargeable pack lasted a full overnight trip and the controls were easy with gloves. I'd bring this headlamp again."
"Headlamp works great. I don't have another one to compare brightness to but its bright. My main thought about it is how the heck is it still a micro-USB!?!? No USB-C which means I have to remember another cord everywhere I go and it doesn't match every essentially every other modern electronic device on the market from cheap stuff to expensive. Super bummed about that."
"I have a BD Spot 400R (400 lumens), which appears to be about as bright as this one which claims to be 500 lumens. This lamp does not appear to be 25% brighter than the less expensive and lighter Spot 400, AND there is an annoying purple zone in the middle of the illuminated spot. It's not worth the extra cost."
"* Power Tap make the lamp almost unusable for me. I often accidentally touch the Tap spot, turning on blinding light * When I turn it off in the dark, the Battery Level blue LEDs on the bottom glare annoyingly into my eyes * The Mini-USB charging receptacle is tough to see, tougher to plug into * No instructions on how to adjust the headband, which I found tough to do * Enclosed instructions incomprehensible to me. Online Video too abbreviated. I had to email Black Diamond to ask for instructions * After 3 months, the Main white LED intermittently could not be turned on at all, despite full battery charge."
"USB Micro in 2026? C'mon Black Diamond. This is now the only device I use that has a USB-micro connector so I have to carry an extra cord with me if I want to charge this headlamp. Get with the times Black Diamond."
